Ragi – A Wholesome Diet 

Eleusine coracana, better known as Ragi or finger millet, originated from Africa that is widely grown and consumed in Asia and Africa. Ragi grows well in hot climatic conditions. It grows well in SouthIndia and become one of their staple food. Ragi grows up to 1 to 2 meters tall, and its leaves grow up to  30 to 70 centimeters long. Each grain looks small, weighing around 3 grams, and red, brown, and purple colors. Ragi is known as Kezhvaragu in Tamil, Ragi in Hindi, and finger millet in English and cultivated in large parts of Karnataka.  Ragi also plays a vital role in ancient south Indian cuisine. Many delicious recipes are made out of Ragi flour, Ragi Poha (Ragi Aval), Ragi Vermicelli. This gluten-free whole grain posses higher health benefits.
Ragi has higher fiber content that helps to reduce excess weight and control diabetes.  
It is rich in Vitamins, especially the B complex that promotes cell growth, good digestion.
It also has amino acids, folic acids that help in building muscle tone.
The presence of calcium, magnesium, iron and phosphorus helps increase mother’s milk, aids bone development, fights depression, and balances body temperature.
Vitamin C and E help in improving the immune system and skin nourishment.
Undoubtedly this makes Ragi a healthy choice for a complete breakfast.
