Ghee or Glee?

Well, both puts smile across our face. Nowadays, more and more chefs and nutritionists across the world are talking about the wonders and benefits of cooking with ghee. Ghee is popular sacred dairy product oozing with health benefits. It has been used since centuries in religious activities for its auspicious benefits. The soothing smell of ghee creates a ring of positivity. A great digestive and appetizer, natural and organic ghee have been used in India for generations. Be it in cooking regular meals or in preparing different types of snacks and prasads, ghee has a reputable position.

Ghee symbolizes creation, auspiciousness, nourishment, and healing in its purest and most noble form.

Rich in aroma and texture, ghee is great for immunity, digestion, strength and growth. It is highly recommended for young children to support growth. Ghee is also an essential item in the diet for adults as it supplements their nutrient requirements along with boosting health and healing. Also it is recommended to pregnant and lactating mothers to include Ghee in their diet to retain their energy in tenacious times. It helps them maintain the skin glow and lustre despite the tiresome grind.

Whatever you do, you will always be relishing the taste. And what’s more to the plate, it’s super healthy! Ghee contains good fats that are actually good your health! It aids in weight loss, rather than causing you to pile on the kilos.

Benefits of good fat in Ghee: 1.Consuming a certain amount of fat in your diet is essential for wellness. It aids your skin from aging prematurely- and helps in maintaining healthy nerves and brain cells. 2. Our stomach lining also requires some fat to keep itself strong and protect us from acids needed for digestion. 3. Small amounts of natural saturated fats ensure that stomach problems like ulcers are kept at bay.

The Ayurvedic Ghee

According to Ayurveda, ghee which has been properly washed according to Ayurvedic specifications is very beneficial in healing the skin. The little amount of ghee applied to belly button helps in nourishment of the entire body and is especially helpful is healing dried lips. Also, it has slightly alkalizing effect on the body whereas butter has a slightly acidifying effect. It is widely used in Ayurvedic massages and supplements. Ghee keeps skin soft, smooth and lubricated. Ghee is sattvic(pure) food whereas butter is tamasic(lethargic). Also, butter increases Kapha (one of the three dosha or energetic forces of nature that compose the universe and everything in it) whereas ghee is suitable for all the 3 doshas when consumed in moderation.

To better understand the significance of ghee in Ayurveda and why to choose it as a mode of preparation; it is helpful to turn to its linguistic roots. Interestingly enough, the word for oil in Sanskrit is snehana, and ghee is a type of oil after all. The word snehana contains the root sneha, defined as love, affection, and unctuousness. This inherent link between lipids and love is an excellent indication of the subtle effects that ghee imparts. “Sneha also means love…Sneha is a bonded, secure love relationship” Thus, ghee is incredibly rejuvenating on a deep level, and is one of the premier foods for building and maintaining ojas, our vital life sap.

Method of preparing Organic Ghee

The method of making organic ghee has been tried and tested for over 5000 years! First, organic whole milk is completely churned, by hand, to make curd. This curd is then further churned to make butter. This butter is heated on a stove and voila! You have beautiful, fresh Organic Ghee. All the dairy products used to make the organic ghee are themselves 100% organic, across the board; and the methods for their preparation are followed to the latter.

Ayurveda considers ghee to be a “super food”, and prescribes it medicinally to help in problems related to the eyes and nose. Ghee sourced from Ashram’s Organic is medicinal in nature, as they follow the texts laid down in Ayurveda.
